Privacy policy
Your tracks stay with you
The short version. Ridgify has no accounts, no ads and no analytics, and it runs no server that receives your tracks. Your recordings stay on your Garmin watch and your iPhone. A few optional features contact other services. This page lists every one, and each stays off until you use it.
Who is responsible
Ridgify is made by Attila Sukosd, an individual developer in Hungary, who is the controller of any personal data described here. For privacy questions write to hello@ridgify.com.
What Ridgify handles on your devices
- Position, altitude and speed. The watch records them as Garmin activities. It also sends position points and the current state (trail, flight or transport) to the Ridgify app on your iPhone over Bluetooth, through Garmin's Connect IQ Mobile SDK. The app keeps them in a database on your iPhone so it can show your journal and create GPX files.
- Garmin activities. Activities saved on the watch, including heart rate if you wear it, sync to Garmin Connect through your Garmin account. Garmin's privacy policy covers that.
- Background location. If you allow location "Always", Ridgify uses your iPhone's position while the screen is off to keep your watch updated with wind. The position is used on the phone and is sent only to the services you turn on below.
- Motion data. Ridgify may read motion data from your iPhone to help recognise movement during outdoor recording. It stays on the phone.
- Keys and settings. Provider keys and tokens are stored in the iPhone Keychain. Your PureTrack password is used once to sign in and is never stored.
Recorded points live in the app's local database. Ridgify adds no extra encryption of its own to them. They are protected by your iPhone's built in data protection and passcode.
Optional services that receive data
Ridgify contacts these only when you use the matching feature.
MetNet wind, Hungary
The first time you ask for wind near you, Ridgify asks your permission. If you agree, it sends your iPhone's GPS coordinates to MetNet (metnet.hu) to find the nearest settlement, then asks MetNet for that settlement's nearest automatic station. Ridgify does not send your location to anyone else for this. MetNet's own policy covers what it does with the request. You can withdraw consent at any time under Wind settings in the app, and Ridgify will ask again before the next lookup.
Windy Stations, other countries
If you add your own Windy Stations API key and station IDs, Ridgify sends the key and a station ID to Windy (stations.windy.com) to read that station's latest observation. Your location is not sent. The key stays in the iPhone Keychain.
PureTrack live tracking
If you connect PureTrack and start sharing, Ridgify sends your position, altitude, speed and course, a device ID and the label you chose to PureTrack, so other pilots can see you live. To show nearby pilots, it sends your sign in and a small area around you, and keeps the results in memory only. Sharing is off until you start it. You can stop it at any time, and "Disconnect and clear device data" deletes the saved keys and any points waiting to be sent. PureTrack's policy covers what it does with your data.
Garmin
Ridgify talks to your watch through Garmin Connect IQ. Your Garmin account, Garmin Connect and the Connect IQ store belong to Garmin and are covered by Garmin's privacy policy.
Apple
If you test Ridgify through TestFlight, or install it from the App Store, Apple collects its own information, such as crash reports if you choose to share them, under Apple's policy.
Airspace, not live yet
Ridgify has an airspace display, but the airspace service it needs is not running. If that changes, the app will tell you, and this page will say exactly what location data the service receives before anything is sent.
What Ridgify does not do
- It does not create accounts or ask for your name or email.
- It does not show ads and has no advertising or tracking libraries.
- It does not collect analytics about how you use it.
- It does not sell your data or share it for marketing.
This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no scripts, fonts or images from other sites. The web server keeps standard access logs (address, time and page requested) for security and fault finding, and they are deleted after a short time.
Keeping and deleting data
Delete the Ridgify app to remove its saved outings, keys and settings from your iPhone. Delete activities on your watch or in Garmin Connect to remove them there. For data held by PureTrack, MetNet, Windy or Garmin, use their own tools.
Your rights
Because Ridgify holds no data about you on its own servers, there is normally nothing for me to give you, correct or delete. If you think I hold something, write to hello@ridgify.com and I will reply within 30 days. Under EU law you may also complain to your data protection authority. In Hungary that is the NAIH (naih.hu).
Children
Ridgify is not aimed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date. A change that sends more data anywhere is shown in the app before it takes effect.
