For Garmin Instinct 2X and iPhone · Private beta

Walk up the ridge. Fly down it. One clean record.

Ridgify notices when you are hiking, flying or riding home, and saves each part on its own. Your wrist shows the route, your lift, the wind and the airspace near you. Your phone limits background location when you are resting.

Ridgify is in private beta on TestFlight. The Garmin Instinct 2X is the first supported watch.

The Ridgify iPhone app showing the journal with a live wind reading from HungaroMet, 2.6 metres per second and gusts of 8.4 Instinct 2X flight page: lift plus 2.4 metres per second, altitude 1412 metres, speed 38.5 kilometres per hour, Bluetooth vario connected Instinct 2X wind page: 18 kilometres per hour from the north west, gusts 27, Dobogókő station

How a day looks

One outing, each part saved on its own

Hike up, launch, land, ride back. Ridgify spots each change and starts a new activity, so trail time and air time never blur into one file. Walking and running both count as Trail.

An example outing. The ride home is never a sport activity, but it stays in the full track, so you can still export the whole day as one GPX file.

What it does

Built for the ridge, the launch and the walk back

Trail navigation

Import a GPX course on your phone and send it to the watch. You get a north up overview of the course, the distance left and how far off course you are. No map tiles to download.

Flight display

GPS altitude, ground speed, lift and air time on one page. Use the watch's own estimate, or pair a BlueFly vario over Bluetooth. The footer shows BLE OK while it is connected, and the watch finds it again after a power cycle. BLE OK means fresh vario samples are arriving.

Live wind

The nearest weather station on your phone and your wrist, with speed, gust, direction and the age of each reading. Hungarian readings come from HungaroMet open data, with MetNet as a fallback. Other countries use your saved Windy stations.

Rests when you rest

The phone uses background location for an outing or a brief activity check, then returns to a resting geofence. Battery savings and wake-up reliability are being tested in the beta. The watch's Phone and battery page shows the link and the days left.

Airspace on the watch

The nearest XContest airspace zone with its distance and limits, refreshed from your phone during an outing. It is advisory and checks only the horizontal position. Tested for Hungary.

One menu for the outing

Start or pause, mark a lap, choose the mode, check the vario, and finish with save and quit or discard. Each row shows its state in a short line.

Whole track as GPX

Share the full outing as one GPX file, including the ride home. Each trail and flight also stays on the watch as its own activity.

Optional live tracking

Share your position live on PureTrack and look at nearby paraglider traffic. It stays off until you start it, and you can stop it at any time.

On your wrist

Made for a small screen that has to be read at a glance

Big numbers, plain icons, one job per page. The round window shows the one value that matters on that page.

Screens from the Connect IQ simulator with example values. Your own readings will differ.

On your iPhone

Your field log, with no cloud in the way

Every outing saves on your phone, point by point, with the trail, flight and ride home marked on one line.

  • Connect the watch and sync an outing in one tap.
  • Import a GPX course and send it to the watch.
  • See each outing as one line, with trail, flight and ride home marked.
  • Watch feed on the home screen shows the time of the last wind and airspace push, and whether the phone is resting or active.
  • Export the whole track as GPX and share it anywhere.

Straight about limits

It tells you what it knows, and how old it is

Aid, not authority

Not a certified instrument

Ridgify does not replace a flight computer, official charts or your own judgement. Wind readings come from stations that can differ from your launch.

Fresh or flagged

Every reading shows its age

Wind says how old it is. Stale or missing data is labelled on the screen, so an old number never passes for a live one.

Advisory

Airspace from XContest

The watch shows the nearest airspace zone with its limits and distance. During an active outing, the phone aims to refresh it every 30 seconds in flight and every 2 minutes on the trail. Updates depend on location fixes, connectivity and iOS background delivery. Only the horizontal position is checked, so always check official sources before you fly.

Offline first

The watch works alone

Recording starts and saves on the watch without the phone. If the phone link drops, you lose wind updates, not your track.

Questions

Good to know

Which watches does Ridgify work with?

The Garmin Instinct 2X is the first supported watch. An Instinct 2 build exists but has not been tested yet.

Do I need my phone to record?

No. The watch records and saves on its own. The phone adds GPX import, live wind, the journal and optional live sharing.

Does it drain my iPhone battery?

The app now stops continuous location updates at rest and watches an area around you. Brief activity checks can still use location. We have not measured the saving yet, so compare Settings, Battery for Ridgify after a day out and tell us what you see.

Which varios work?

BlueFly pairing, loss detection and automatic reconnect have been checked on a real Instinct 2X. Other varios, such as SoarMate, have not yet been checked.

When can I get it?

Ridgify is in private beta on TestFlight. Write to hello@ridgify.com with your iPhone and watch model to ask for an invite.

Where does my data go?

Your tracks stay on your watch and iPhone. Ridgify has no accounts, ads or analytics and runs no server that receives your tracks. A few optional features contact other services, and the privacy policy lists each one.

Is it a certified flight instrument?

No. It is an aid. Wind readings and airspace data are advisory.

Is Ridgify made by Garmin?

No. Ridgify is independent. It runs on Garmin watches through the Connect IQ platform.
